The Broncos have selected Missouri OG Connor McGovern with the 144th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.  Let’s take closer look at McGovern and how he fits on the Broncos roster.

The Broncos finally got another Offensive Lineman!  With their first of two picks in the 5th Round, they selected Missouri OG Connor McGovern. Let’s take a closer look at McGovern and how he fits in with the Broncos.

SCOUTING REPORT:

PROS

Good size for a ZBS lineman (6’4, 306 lbs)

One of the strongest players in the Draft. Has great weight room strength.

Three year starter at Missouri

Played both Guard and Tackle positions

CONS

Need to work on his consistency in pass protection

Needs to be more flexible in his blocking style

Has trouble covering rushers with good speed

HOW HE FITS: Like Devontae Booker, McGovern is another great value pick for the Broncos here in the 5th round. He was widely considered to be a 3rd round talent that has starting upside in the NFL. With his position flexibility, I expect him to be good depth from day one and depending on how Ty Sambrailo transitions to the inside, could push him for the starting job.  This is a very solid pick for the Broncos, who were looking to fortify their Offensive Line heading into the 2016 season. He’s great depth who could start in the near future.
