Broncos vs. Patriots: Best Games of All-Time

The Denver Broncos and New England Patriots go all the way back to the AFL days. In fact, both teams played in the first AFL game back in 1960. Both teams have come a long way since then.
Both of these teams have become the class of the AFC for some time now. An old AFL rivalry will be renewed on Sunday Night Football at Mile High. The Broncos lead the all time series against the Patriots with 28 wins and 21 losses.
That can be in due part to a huge winning streak the Broncos had against the Patriots. From 1984 until 1999, the Broncos had won 11 straight games. However, the Patriots have had the last laugh in recent meetings, with their only loss in the last five years in the AFC Championship Game.
Without further ado, here are five of my favorite games between the Broncos and Patriots of all time.
#5- September 7th, 1998
The Denver Broncos began their Super Bowl defense against the New England Patriots on a Monday Night in Denver. The Broncos would get started right off the bat with a 44 yard connection between John Elway and Ed McCaffrey that would ultimately lead to a field goal.
After a few punts, the Broncos would finally get into the end zone as the first quarter came to a close when Elway connected with Shannon Sharpe for the game’s first touchdown. The Broncos would take a 10-0 lead after one quarter.
Early in the second quarter, Terrell Davis would get into the end zone on a nine yard run to further extend the lead to 17-0. The Patriots would get on the board when running back Robert Edwards would score on a one yard run. The score was 17-7 Broncos at the half.
In the second half, the Patriots wasted no time putting pressure on the Broncos as Drew Bledsoe led the team down the field on the opening possession and threw a 24 yard touchdown pass to Troy Brown to cut the Broncos lead to three points.
Jason Elam would add his second field goal of the game on a 42 yard attempt that would end the scoring in the third quarter. The Broncos would take a 20-14 lead into the final quarter.
Early in the fourth quarter, Terrell Davis would get in once again on a one yard score to make it 27-14 Broncos. Despite a late touchdown by the Patriots, the Broncos would hold on to win 27-21. It began a streak of 13 wins in a row to start a season.
