Brock Osweiler named AFC offensive player of the week

Denver Broncos QB Brock Osweiler was named AFC offensive player of the week after his performance against the Chicago Bears last Sunday.

Brock Osweiler’s performance wasn’t perfect, but it was good enough to win AFC offensive player of the week honors. He completed 20 of 27 passes (74.1 percent) for 250 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions for a 127.1 passer rating.

Osweiler also accidentally tripped Ronnie Hillman on what would have been yet another Broncos touchdown and another scoring drive, something he’s done a good job of doing so far in his limited action this season. Going back to the end of the Kansas City Chiefs game, Osweiler has orchestrated already now five scoring drives for the Broncos, though certainly there’s room for improvement.

He was solid against the Bears, efficient with his passes and no real big risks taken. His presence and ability to spread the ball around to different receivers also helped the Broncos’ running game flourish, to the tune of 170 yards on the ground and the ‘almost’ touchdown from Hillman.

It was more than just the opening drive passing touchdown for Osweiler and the immense spotlight that earned him the award. It was winning the time of possession battle, executing the offense extremely well, and providing the Broncos with a clutch drive on the road to essentially seal the game when they absolutely had to have it.

It wasn’t comparable to the five touchdown performance from Jameis Winston of Tampa Bay or anything, but it was a really good starting debut for Brock and good enough across the span of the AFC to earn this prestigious weekly award.

And when he did, the haters were out in full force.
