Can he help the Broncos win now?
The biggest question that needs answering this weekend is whether or not Osweiler can help the Broncos win now. I’m not talking about just coming away from Chicago with a ‘W’, I’m talking about coming away from Chicago thinking, “Man, we need Osweiler to win from now on.”
That’s what the Broncos have to honestly ask themselves after Sunday’s game. Does Peyton Manning truly give them the best chance to win now, or does Brock Osweiler?
Does Osweiler give them the best chance to win ‘from now on’?
I’m not going to sit here and say this is the exact same situation, but we saw the San Francisco 49ers pull an injured Alex Smith in favor of Colin Kaepernick back in 2012, and they rode the momentum that Kaepernick provided all the way to a Super Bowl appearance. It’s not like the Broncos can’t win with Osweiler at QB, because there’s no way he’s going to come in and play any worse than what we saw from Peyton Manning on Sunday.
I think that not only can Osweiler help the Broncos win now, he can help them win from now on. This is a huge crossroads for this franchise, and we saw the 49ers make a decision that ultimately hasn’t worked out, but that doesn’t mean it won’t for the Broncos. Osweiler has to seize this opportunity, and Peyton Manning needs to be okay with whatever role he plays moving forward.
