Denver Broncos training camp is finally upon us. Let’s examine one of the best rosters in the NFL, starting with the most important position on the field.

Peyton ManningThe five-time MVP enters training camp after an interesting offseason in which he took a $4 million pay cut and won an ESPY for the best record-breaking performance.

Manning finished the 2014 season with a sour taste in his mouth, playing extremely poorly in the second half. He reportedly tore his quad and the final five games of the season were an absolute disaster, including the playoffs. The Broncos were forced to become a run-oriented offense, which was okay at times, but it was clear that Manning wasn’t himself.

With renewed health and a new group of targets to throw the ball to, Manning is ready and excited to get back to work.

The interesting storyline for the Broncos and Manning this season will be how he responds to the Gary Kubiak offense that involves a lot of movement outside the pocket on play-action, but Kubiak has insisted all offseason that the offense will be a mix of what he brings to the table and what Manning likes to do as well. That alone will make this team fascinating to watch all year long.

Manning was no slouch in the first half of last season, but it was clear he wasn’t himself as the year progressed. Was that a sign of permanent regression or was it the injury? Is Peyton Manning ‘done’? If it were up to me, Manning would have sat last year when he tore his quad and Brock Osweiler would have started a game or two while he recovered.

I think he’s still got the MVP living inside, and there’s no doubt in my mind that if he feels physically and mentally able to play, Manning is going to be a top quarterback in this league and one capable of leading the Broncos to the Super Bowl.
