Report: OT Jake Long visiting Broncos

With training camp opening in a few days, most players are beginning to report back to team headquarters ready to begin the new season.  While many players know where they’ll be for camp, some players are still lingering in the professional purgatory known as free agency.  Amongst those players is OT Jake Long.  A former #1 overall pick by the Dolphins, the eighth year pro is still re-gaining full health after tearing an ACL for the 2nd straight season.  Despite his health status, he’s been garnering interest from a number of teams this offseason.  One of those teams is none other than our beloved Broncos.

Aside from Denver, it appears that the Giants have a keen interest in Long’s services.  A four time pro bowler, long has the ideal size (6’7, 320 pounds) and experience as a blindside protector to be a force on any offensive line.  It will ultimately come down to how healthy he is and how he can hold up over the course of a season, but if he can get close to his old form, I think there’s no question that the Broncos take every possible step to sign him.

Although we would all like the young guys to succeed in the starting lineup, having a guy like Long on your roster is a big plus for any offense, let alone the offensive line.  We will see how this situation develops as he is supposed to be visiting Denver tonight.  Between the inexperience on the offensive line and a player of Long’s caliber being available, it’s easy to see why Denver is interested in taking a look.  There’s never a dull moment in today’s NFL and come this weekend, we could be talking about another high level player that Elway and co. have managed to snag in the 0ffseason.
