Broncos Camp 2015: Brandon Marshall, Danny Trevathan Update

The Denver Broncos are not far off from starting their 2015 training camp, and two key players might be back sooner than anticipated.

Linebacker Brandon Marshall sent out a message to all of Twitter on Wednesday night, showing off some impressive looking footwork (he is recovering from foot surgery).

Also, in case you missed it, Danny Trevathan’s knee looks pretty darn good to me…

In the weeks leading up to training camp, there might not be better news the Broncos could have expected from their star linebackers. Last season, we caught just a glimpse of what these ‘Bash Brothers’ can do together on the field, and though it was short lived, the production of these two guys over the last couple of years has given hope that the inside linebacker position for the Broncos will be fortified even stronger than the days of the great Al Wilson.

Marshall and Trevathan both got their chance to step up and earn playing time in the wake of injuries to other players, and both of them seized those opportunities in a big way.

Trevathan’s 2013 season remains one of the most underrated by a linebacker in recent memory. According to ESPN statistics, he finished with 129 tackles, 2 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, 10 pass breakups, and 3 interceptions. He was making plays all over the field, and made some really clutch plays for the Broncos that year defensively, including a game-sealing interception off of Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys.

Marshall didn’t put up ‘as’ big of numbers last season, but he did lead all non-pass rushing Broncos in ‘stops’ or plays that constitute an offensive failure (according to Pro Football Focus) and earned a higher overall grade than did Trevathan.

Both players excelled in Jack Del Rio’s defense playing the weak side linebacker position, and both will now have to find ways to adjust to a new spot in Wade Phillips’ 3-4 look.

I am pretty sure both are going to be up to the challenge.
