With the Denver Broncos and Demaryius Thomas still at a standstill on contract negotiations, questions might surface whether or not he will show up for training camp. Reports have already surfaced that if Dez Bryant does not get a deal done by Wednesday, he will sit out training camp and games during the regular season. It would not surprise me at all if Demaryius Thomas does the same, although I hope that he does not.

Things are not looking good for a deal between the franchise wide receiver and the Denver Broncos.

If Thomas does follow that path that Dez Bryant is going, it may not be a bad idea for the Broncos to look at Reggie Wayne. He has a connection with Peyton Manning barring back to the Indianapolis days. It would be interesting to have Reggie Wayne come in as the team’s fourth wide out behind Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders, and Cody Latimer.

This would mean the Broncos would more than likely cut ties with Andre Caldwell, which would not be the worst idea in the world. Seeing as how nearly everyone in Broncos Country is calling for his release. However, the question begs to be answered as to why would the Broncos want to bring in Reggie Wayne?

It is a bit complexed, but the way I see it, Reggie Wayne could help out the team in multiple ways unlike Andre Caldwell. A good move for this would be to have Reggie Wayne play under a one year contract. While training camp is going on, if it appears that it is not working out, the Broncos could release him before the start of the season.

Another reason behind not signing Reggie Wayne could be that the team does not want to hamper down on the production that Cody Latimer has to offer during the 2015 season. But I do not think the signing of Reggie Wayne would impact Cody Latimer’s role in the offense. I still see him as the third wideout on Gary Kubiak’s roster.

And even though the Broncos have an abundance of veteran leadership on the roster such as Peyton Manning, Demarcus Ware, and Owen Daniels to name a few, having another veteran to become a leader and for the younger players to learn from would be ideal for the team as well.

While there are many factors as to why the Broncos should not look at Reggie Wayne, it may not be the worst idea in the world. Especially if Reggie Wayne is going to provide a security blanket to Peyton Manning in the case that Demaryius Thomas sits out for a significant amount of time. At this point, the nightmare could turn into reality since it appears that no deal will be done by Wednesday.

The Broncos need to be prepared just in case the worst case scenario does happen.
