The Denver Broncos began OTAs on Wednesday. It was the first time the Denver Broncos were together as a team since their loss to the Indianapolis Colts in the divisional round. One player who impressed in the first day at OTAs was not a veteran player or a player who has a lot to prove this upcoming season. It was a rookie.

Second round draft pick Ty Sambrailo is competing for the starting right tackle position for the 2015 season. For his first day at organized team activities, he went out there to make a great first impression and according to those who were watching, he did just that.

Ty Sambrailo attended Colorado State University, so he is quite familiar with playing in the state of Colorado. But what impressed most was his speed and his ability to make a big play. John Elway were impressed with what they saw with Ty Sambrailo.

Looking back at his highlights, especially during the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl, he looked impressive for the majority of the snaps. He was lined up as a Left Tackle during that game and did a solid job protecting Garrett Grayson’s blind spot.

Ty Sambrailo has a lot of work ahead of him though. In order for him to win the starting job, he is going to need to beat out Chris Clark and Michael Schofield. However, if Ty Sambrailo does not end up lining up at right tackle, the Broncos could look and see if he could play another position on the line if he continues to impress. As I stated earlier, he has played some left tackle, but that job belongs to Ryan Clady.

It would be interesting to see him line up as in the guard position. With Orlando Franklin moving to San Diego, there is a spot open as the left guard. However, Ty Sambrailo would most likely have to compete with Shelley Smith and Ben Garland for that spot.

No matter how much of an uphill battle Ty Sambrailo has to climb in order to earn a starting job on the offensive line, it is great to see him working hard on day one.
