The Denver Broncos are in the midst of revamping their offensive line, which is responsible for protecting Peyton Manning. It has been a line that has dealt with the most ridicule and there could be one player that might not be on the line, much less the roster once the preseason begins.
Chris Clark has been one of the longer tenured Broncos players, wearing the orange and blue since 2010. However, it has been somewhat of a roller coaster ride for Chris Clark during his time in Denver. Since 2012, Chris Clark has been starting, then a back up, and then back up and down.
During the end of their Super Bowl meltdown, the Denver Broncos drafted Michael Schofield in order to compete with Chris Clark. However, he proved himself and won the starting job for the 2014 season. But halfway through the season, there was quite a bit of change to the offensive line which resulted in Chris Clark being demoted to a back up to Louis Vasquez, who’s natural position is right guard.
Chris Clark has been inconsistent as of lately. Having him at right tackle was probably a bad move for him as according to Pro Football Focus he was unable to adjust and accumulated a (-6.7) during his time at right tackle during the 2014 season. That was also a possible reason why he was benched.
With Michael Schofield and now second round draft pick Ty Sambrailo breathing down his neck, it will be even more difficult for Chris Clark to fend off two players. Michael Schofield is prepared to take the next step after spending all of 2014 on the inactive list. On an earlier list I made here at Predominantly Orange, I just do not see Chris Clark getting back in the starting lineup.
Something tells me that the poor performance of 2014 coupled with the possible emergence of Michael Schofield and Ty Sambrailo could prevent Chris Clark from making the final roster once the 2015 season begins. Right tackle will be an interesting position battle to watch during the summer, but I honestly do not see Chris Clark wearing the Broncos colors when all is said and done.
