Perhaps the most talked about subject surrounding the Denver Broncos camp is Antonio Smith recently being under fire for a domestic investigation. The 33-year old defensive end for the Broncos, who just signed with the team over one month ago, could be facing a legal action.

Antonio Smith’s NFL career could be in some serious doubt, especially after reports have stated that his case is “sexual in nature” involving a child. Learning more about what the case was about, it put me in a state of shock. While this case has not been proven in the sense of charges being filed, it could factor in if Antonio Smith even plays football again.

Sayre has already pointed out his displeasure in the situation. While I will not make any assumptions until all the facts are right in front of my face, you have to figure the Broncos and/or the NFL will make a quick decision, most likely after the findings or charges are filed. In my opinion, the Denver Broncos need to sit down with Antonio Smith and get his side of the story. The Fort Bend County Sheriff Office in Texas received the complaint in November. The reason why we are hearing of it now was because the findings of the investigation was just completed and sent to the county DA office.

I am not going to be a broken record about my stance against domestic abuse, but learning new information about this case does sicken me. You never want to hear a child being subjected to an abuse that could scar that child for years. If the allegations are found to be true, it would make me sick and angry that an individual would go that far to cause so much pain to a child.

With the recent cases to Greg Hardy, Adrian Peterson, and Ray Rice involving domestic abuse, it would not surprise me if the NFL punishes Antonio Smith for his actions if proven true. I do not think the Broncos would take any action until charges are officially filed. Even then, I am sure Roger Goodell will be quick to react before the Broncos can. The best that the Broncos can do if charges are filed is release him. There would be no reason to have a roster spot for a player that is suspended for a long period of time.

Only time will tell how the situation will be handled, but once light has been shed on the subject, Antonio Smith could be looking for a new occupation somewhere else. At age 33, this could seriously destroy the remainder of his career.
