Just when you thought the tight end search was over, the Denver Broncos are looking into another one in Harold Spears.

According to a league source, the Broncos are hosting a visit with New Hampsire tight end Harold Spears. It has not been confirmed when this meeting will take place, but this latest development should be an interesting one to look at. The Broncos are already stacked at tight end with the addition of Owen Daniels and Joe Don Duncan during the first day of free agency. Virgil Green’s new contract and Dominique Jones on the roster makes for a huge crowd of tight ends.

Harold Spears is an interesting name to keep an eye on. His skill set reminds me a bit of what Julius Thomas brought to the table. He has the ability to create separation in the pass game and run from defenders. He is a solid route runner who can bounce of defenders to get open. His pass protection is good from what the highlights show below.

Harold Spears also has a basketball background, which is what players like Tony Gonzalez and Antonio Gates have used to thrive on the gridiron. The strength that Harold Spears has from both sports should help him transition to the leagues really well. Having a pass catching tight end on the roster with a basketball background would really benefit both parties if the Broncos decide to draft him.

The tight end carousel got more interesting with this news. However, it would be a great move by John Elway if the Broncos call his name during the draft. He is quite the talent and could be a great player for years to come.

I can see Harold Spears being a contributor to the Broncos franchise once he can transition to the NFL level. Look out for him because he could be a big time player.
