Another free agent of the Denver Broncos is going to wear different colors in 2015. Jacob Tamme, who was deciding between coming back to Denver or signing with the Atlanta Falcons, has agreed to choose the latter and suit up in red and black for the 2015 season.

This will be the first time in his career that Jacob Tamme will be on a team without Peyton Manning on the roster. It is safe to say that both men have learned a lot from each other.

As a fan and a writer, I will say that I will miss Jacob Tamme, but that I figured that he would choose Atlanta over Denver by virtue of what the Broncos did on the first day of free agency. The team re-signed Virgil Green and signed Owen Daniels each to three year contracts. The Broncos ended day one of free agency by signing Joe Don Duncan, a college free agent from Dixie State. With those three tight ends on the roster plus Dominique Jones, it was apparent that perhaps Jacob Tamme would not have a huge role in the offense like he did when he joined Peyton Manning in Denver back in 2012.

Back in 2012, Jacob Tamme enjoyed his most successful season in Denver. He recorded 52 receptions for 555 yards and two touchdowns. It was the best season of his career since 2010. He saw a reduced role in the Broncos offense with the emergence of Julius Thomas. However, his clutch time performance came in Week 3 of the 2014 season, when he caught a touchdown against the Seattle Seahawks that would ultimately tie the game.

Jacob Tamme will be joining an Atlanta Falcons team that is in the search of a quality tight end, something they have been lacking since the retirement of Tony Gonzalez. He figures to have a bigger role under new head coach Dan Quinn.

Jacob Tamme has been Peyton Manning’s teammate for his entire career. Now it is time to see how he does on his own. Broncos Country will miss you Jacob Tamme.
