The offense for the Denver Broncos has been known to be a pass happy one ever since Peyton Manning arrived. Since his tenure, the running back situation has seen quite a few faces. From Willis McGahee to Knowshon Moreno to Montee Ball. The position changes faces quite a bit. However, with the emergence of C.J. Anderson this season, the Broncos might have found their running back that can compliment and take the pressure off of Peyton Manning. I think this will be key when the playoffs begin.

Because of the New England Patriots win against the San Diego Chargers last week, it will be difficult for the Broncos to catch up to them for home field advantage because of the teams they both face. Patriots have the Dolphins, Jets, and Bills left which two of them are at home. The Broncos have road games against the Chargers and Bengals before they end the season at home against the Raiders. On paper, it seems the Broncos would be traveling to Foxboro if the two teams meet again in the postseason. With the Broncos new offense, I would feel confident that they could steal that game in New England.

I’m not saying the Broncos will not win out and have home field advantage, but this is a team that looks to be getting hot at the right time. The running game has been exceptional under C.J. Anderson, the defense is doing their part to stop opposing offenses in their tracks. Now the only thing is for Peyton Manning to add the other dimension to the balanced team, His reliable arm. It has been clear that the passing game has not been what it used to be, but I believe it will return with due time. Now that the run game has blossomed into what it can really do, it is only a matter of time when pass and run start complimenting each other.

And for those that say that Peyton Manning’s health is declining and that is why the pass offense has been terrible, I would not be counting your chickens that quickly now. The return of Julius Thomas will help out the passing offense. And let’s not forget about another quarterback that played for Denver some time ago. The offense did not rely around him and he came through when it mattered most. Yes, I am talking about John Elway. This offense will be really difficult for teams to prepare for now because now you have C.J. Anderson to worry about rather than Peyton Manning and the wide outs Demaryius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders and Wes Welker (who is also improving) and the tight end Julius Thomas.

This new offense has a lot of potential and if the Broncos do not end up claiming home field when the regular season ends, I would not be as concerned as I was when the Patriots won the Week 9 matchup. Remember last year when Knowshon Moreno ran all over them on a cold Sunday Night in Foxboro for over 200 yards. This Broncos offense can win games on the ground.

Teams better be on watch, because this Broncos offense does not need to rely on Peyton Manning to win games. And that is scary to believe.
