The Denver Broncos have announced five team captains for the 2014 season, including quarterback Peyton Manning, who is a three-time captain with the team. They are as follows:

Offense: Peyton Manning, Demaryius Thomas

Defense: DeMarcus Ware, Terrance Knighton

Special Teams: David Bruton

Peyton Manning is no stranger to wearing the captain’s “C” on his chest, but Demaryius Thomas has never done so since being drafted in 2010. Thomas is undoubtedly one of the best players on the Broncos’ roster, and entering a contract year. He has done a great job developing in all facets of his game, not the least of which is his leadership on and off the field.

Ware is in his first season with the Broncos, but was a perennial captain in his time with the Dallas Cowboys. He’s immediately cemented himself as a leader among the Broncos’ new-look defense.

Knighton is also a first-time captain not only with the Broncos, but in his time in the NFL. He has brought an incredibly fun personality to Denver and a nasty one on the field. He figures to be among the Broncos’ best defenders again this year.

Bruton has consistently been one of the Broncos’ special teams aces since being drafted in 2009, and his ability there has essentially made his roster spot in Denver. He’s also one of the longest tenured Broncos on the team.
