Health was an issue against Houston as Wes Welker, who has had concussion issues over the past couple of years, was victimized by a cheap shot to the head by Texans’ safety, D.J. Swearinger. After a whole week of trash-talking by Swearinger in a joint practice (no, this has nothing to do with the new Colorado cannabis law) between the two sides, Peyton Manning channeled his inner-Popeye: “THAT’S ALL I CAN STAND, AND I CANTS STANDS NO MORE!!!”  He had a word, well actually two words for aptly-named Swearinger after torching him for two late first half touchdowns. Manning stepped out of his usually well-mannered skin and per a tweet from Mike Klis of the Denver Post, let out this blast:

PFM’s action earned him the first taunting penalty of his 18-year career. However he seemed to be measured in relation to the timing of the confrontation to avoid an untimely 15 yard infraction.

"“I was obviously concerned about [Welker]. If you’re going to get a penalty, that’s a good time to do it (near end of the half).”"

The Duke, John Elway had his own take on the Sherriff’s uncharacteristically in-your-face confrontation with the Houston safety.

"“The mentality of the guys we have now is that they are going to punch back.” Said Elway while joining Ron Zappolo and John Lynch during the third quarter of the broadcast of last night’s game. 9News"

Of course, the most important matter is the health of Welker. Here’s to hoping for a quick recovery!
