The ugly reality of the NFL — the injury bug spares no one, not even at rookie mini-camp.

According to the Denver Post, Broncos defensive end John Youboty hurt his Achilles at practice on Saturday, and while he’s being evaluated, the team fears the injury is serious.

Youboty was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2013 out of Temple, and spent the entire year on the Broncos’ practice squad. In reading ESPN.com’s rookie blog updates, the word was that Youboty had been working in as a defensive end and a defensive tackle during practice, and by all accounts was making progress.

He faces an uphill battle to make the Broncos’ final roster, but he was getting in some extra work at this year’s rookie mini camp after spending all of last season soaking things in as an NFL player.

Injuries are a harsh reality, and a shame to have to report on. We wish John a speedy recovery and hope it’s not as serious as is being presumed.
