The Denver Broncos tried to trade for Jared Allen last October. Why not try and sign him now, and not give up any draft picks?

Apparently, the Allen-to-Denver rumors are picking up serious steam.

That report comes from a Vikings beat writer for the St. Paul Pioneer-Press, who would obviously have close ties to Allen and his camp. If this report is true, which may indeed be likely, then the Broncos are about to get some more attitude and a very prolific pass rusher for their defense.

The thought out there is that Jared Allen is old, which in NFL years he’s getting there, but he’s only 31 yet. He could still have two or three pretty darn good years left in him, and the Broncos will likely use a rotation at defensive end, featuring Allen across from Von Miller as pass rushers.

The possibilities here with Allen and Miller are very enticing, so for the Broncos, this makes sense especially since Allen isn’t looking for a long-term deal or a contract that breaks the bank.
