Broncos May Just Miss Having Three 1,000 Yard Receivers

The Denver Broncos’ offense has been nothing short of spectacular this season, but their torrid pace from the beginning of the year has tapered off a bit, though they still remain in line to break numerous league records.

One interesting statistic of note all year has been receiving yardage, which has been incredibly evenly distributed to all of the Broncos’ Four Horsemen up to this point, but because of Wes Welker’s recent concussions, Denver may miss out on having three 1,000 yard receivers.

Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker are already both over 1,000 for the second straight year, proving that on the outside, there aren’t many if any duos in the NFL as good as they are (Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery the exception as of now). With Welker, the top priority is long-term health, so if there’s any question about the future health of his brain, there’s no doubt in my mind he should be in sweats on Thursday night.

Not having practiced the last two days, the Broncos are awaiting word on whether or not Welker will be cleared to play on Thursday, and as of now he hasn’t been ruled out.

Welker currently is sitting on 778 receiving yards and is averaging a hair under 60 yards per game this season. For those not into quick math, he’ll need 222 yards in the final three games to eclipse 1,000, which is entirely do-able even if he only plays at Houston and vs. Oakland.

The next closest Bronco to 1,000 is obviously Julius Thomas, who has missed a couple of games this season with a knee injury but is a serious threat for 100 yards per game if the Broncos chose to incorporate him that much into the game plan.

Either way, the numbers the Broncos are putting up this year are ridiculous. I’ll leave you with a few milestones and numbers the team can reach in the last three games:

  • Knowshon Moreno needs 2 receptions to give the Broncos five players with 50 or more this season
  • Eric Decker needs 2 more TD catches to give the Broncos five players with 10 or more touchdowns in 2013
  • Moreno is 2nd on the Broncos with 356 yards after the catch
  • The Broncos have 8 players that have caught a TD pass this season
