Broncos to Play Chiefs Without Two Starters on Defensive Line

The last time the Denver Broncos played the Kansas City Chiefs two weeks ago, they held running back Jamaal Charles to 78 yards on 16 carries.

Now they’ll have to accomplish something similar without two of their best run stoppers — Derek Wolfe and Kevin Vickerson.

Wolfe fell ill on the bus ride to the airport with what the Broncos are calling “seizure-like symptoms.” He was transported via ambulance to a Denver area hospital. Doctors are watching over him and are trying to determine the cause of the symptoms.

Meanwhile, Vickerson is out for the season after suffering a dislocated hip last week against the Patriots.

Wolfe and Vickerson have combined for 32 tackles (9 for a loss) and 5 sacks, and they’ve helped guide the Broncos to being the 5th best run defense in the NFL.

They will certainly be missed, but Sylvester Williams, Mitch Unrein, and Robert Ayers will have to step up.

It’s unclear when Wolfe will be released from the hospital.
