UPDATE: It’s been confirmed that both C.J. Anderson and Jacob Hester have made the Broncos’ final 53 man roster

If players are to be believed via Twitter, or you are a big reader of tea leaves, then two Denver Broncos tailbacks fighting for roster spots have broken a bit of news on Friday night, and it’s of the positive variety.

First up is undrafted RB C.J. Anderson. You remember, the guy who came out of nowhere and showed off speed, power, and tenacity in the first pre-season game, only to injure his knee at practice days later? Here you have it:

He followed it up with this:

Anderson was a big time longshot to make the Broncos’ roster, especially initially. He quickly earned the trust of coaches and was running as the 2nd team goal line back at practice before he hurt his knee. Anderson has a legitimate shot at being the Broncos’ number four tailback ahead of another guy, whom he was seeking the guidance of shortly after his Twitter celebration. Running back/fullback Jacob Hester is a model of versatility, and the Broncos signed him to a two year deal near the end of the 2012 season. Obviously Hester came into the pre-season on the roster bubble, but he has very possibly made the team in 2013. I say ‘very possibly’ because immediately after Anderson celebrated, he shot over a mention to his teammate Hester:

Maybe not much to read into there, but Anderson would sure feel stupid (you’d think) asking a teammate for advice or help in any sort after he was just cut. Then this from Hester, not directed at Anderson:

This tweet isn’t abnormal of an NFL player, as many of them are religious. However, the timing is what’s important here. Hester could simply be proclaiming the goodness of his God with a popular phrase, or he could be rejoicing in the fact that he’s made an NFL roster.

Again, the timing of this all is what’s leading me to believe that Anderson and Hester have rounded out the Broncos’ backfield this season, which already features rookie Montee Ball, Ronnie Hillman, and veteran Knowshon Moreno.

Read into it what you will, but it looks like Denver’s backfield situation is settled.
