Broncos Get Dumervil’s Faxed Contract Seven Minutes Late, Prompting His Release

Hold the phone, hold your weekend plans. Elvis Dumervil’s contract was not filed in time. This comes from Denver Post beat writer Mike Klis.

“Hold on, contract not filed in time. Elvis Dumervil has been officially released” – Mike Klis (Twitter)

On the heels of the news that Dumervil has decided to take a pay cut, the fax machine decides to run out of paper. Ok, ok, that didn’t happen, but the team didn’t get Dumervil’s contract with his signature on it until 2:07, which is seven minutes after the deadline.

The Broncos can sign Dumervil, but there are salary cap ramifications. There’s now $4.869 million in dead money. Other teams also have the chance to talk to Dumervil now that he’s a free agent.

In the age of technology, this is unacceptable. The Broncos were informed of Dumervil’s decision to stay at 1:25 p.m. That means that his agent had 35 minutes to get the paperwork in. This is like a bad scene from The Office.

This depicts how the Broncos feel Friday afternoon.

    Talk about a costly mistake!

Intentional mistake by the agent and player! Tried to get initial contract by being late with the new one. Makes the player look good either way you look at it.

I wonder what will happen now that he has Tom Condon as his agent. I’m just dying to know whether he is staying or going. I guess we’ll have an answer in the next week! (Hopefully)

This puts a whole new spin on Dumervil’s future with the Broncos, if there in fact is one.

Forget it, lets just go after Bernard Pollard and draft a new DE.
