The words ‘Denver Broncos’ and ‘Super Bowl’ conjure up immediate images of John Elway hoisting the Lombardi Trophy. There’s no denying that.

Now ‘Super Bowl’ could take on an entirely new meaning for Denver fans and residents alike. Mayor Michael Hancock and the Denver Broncos are pursuing a bid for the 2018, 2019, or 2020 Super Bowl. The Broncos and Hancock have submitted the initial paperwork to the NFL’s Super Bowl Advisory Committee.

“We will pursue it along with Visit Denver. I think Denver would be head and shoulders above any other city to compete to host a Super Bowl.” – Michael Hancock to the Denver Post

Usually cold weather cities aren’t considered for the Super Bowl because along with the actual game, golf outings and outdoor parties and events are also highly touted. For the first time, the Super Bowl will be held in a cold weather city where the stadium doesn’t have a roof in 2014 when the league converges on New Jersey. If all goes well there, expect Denver to be taken more seriously.
