What this all comes down to, and what Elway and Fox wisely moved quickly quickly to address is this: Football is America's game, and Tebow is fundamentally un-American. When it comes to sports, we leave our political and religious differences aside and enjoy the game together. Stop and think for a moment what it would be like if every NFL player tried to cultivate a fan base whose behavior as fans was centered on extremist religious and political beliefs. There would be ugliness and real violence in the parking lots and stands, and the games would be unwatchable for most Americans, especially families. There are a lot of Denver fans who are overjoyed that this selfish and self-possessed second-rate player and his weird followers are now somebody else's headache.
