Eddie Royal Signs With Chargers

Eddie Royal will join Mike Shanahan in Washington (Kevin Hoffman-US PRESSWIRE)

Eddie Royal will stay put in the AFC West as he just signed a deal with the San Diego Chargers. Royal signed a three-year deal worth $13.5 million ($6 million guaranteed).

That’s certainly not bad for a guy who will likely be the third or fourth receiver on the team.

Royal’s production dropped since his rookie year in 2008 when he had 91 receptions for 980 yards and 5 touchdowns. Last season, Royal had just 19 receptions for 155 yards and 1 touchdown.

The Chargers will also use Royal as a punt returner. They know what a threat he is there. He returned two kicks for a touchdown against them in October 2009.

Royal was talking with the Washington Redskins (as he presumably saw reuniting with Mike Shanahan in his best interest), but a contract could not be worked out.

Best of luck to a fan favorite, except of course when he plays the Broncos.
