Broncos Expected To Use Franchise Tag On Matt Prater

Perhaps there was no one more valuable to the Denver Broncos winning games this season than kicker Matt Prater. He kicked four game winning kicks on the last play in regulation or in overtime for the team.

That’s why he is likely to have the franchise tag placed on him as early as Monday. If Prater signs the tender he will make around $2.6 million. Only two other kickers in the league have the franchise label placed on them (Cincinnati’s Mike Nugent and Cleveland’s Phil Dawson).

Prater will enter his 7th season in the NFL after coming into the league as an undrafted rookie. He’s  78.4%  career field goal kicker and 12-for-16 from 50+ yards.
