Denver Broncos Hire Jack Del Rio As Defensive Coordinator

Jack Del Rio is on his way to Denver to take over the Broncos defensive coordinator position.

Del Rio reunites with John Fox after serving as his defensive coordinator in Carolina in 2002. The Panthers went 7-9 that year after going 1-15 the season before.

Del Rio was released from his duties in Jacksonville in November 2011 after serving 9 years as the team’s head coach. During his tenure, he had a 69-73 record and he went 1-2 in the playoffs.

The major concern in hiring Del Rio was that he would leave the position as soon as he was offered another head coaching job.

Dennis Allen leaves some big shoes to fill, but Del Rio brings plenty of experience to the job.

If he does great, he’ll just be gone in a year.

  • Jason Ross

    hell yeah!

  • Scott Allen

Yeah I agree with Tim. However, I think the talent there wins in spite of him

I sure hope Champ sticks around, maybe even play safety and try to get a stud corner. The draft will be rather interesting. They gotta stop that running up the middle.

Del Rio did get run over, by QB #15 Wayne Peace, during the 1983 Florida-USC game. I was there.

Looks like we’re sticking with the 4-3 then. Because he failed with his 3-4 defense in Jacksonville for years before switching to the 4-3 last year.
