Mike McCoy Will Remain Broncos Offensive Coordinator

It was down to two in Miami yesterday.

Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy and Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin were the Dolphins top two candidates in their head coaching search. In the end Philbin won out, and McCoy will remain the Broncos offensive coordinator.

McCoy has been highly sought after for teams looking to fill their head coaching vacancies mostly because he worked with what he had. He made the read-option successful in Denver and utilized Tim Tebow’s strengths while transitioning from Kyle Orton to the Mile High Messiah.

“I appreciate the opportunity Mr. Ross and the Miami Dolphins gave me,” McCoy said. “I am very fortunate to work for the Denver Broncos. We have a great job here. Our family loves living in Denver.” – McCoy to the Denver Post

Some have expressed displeasure in McCoy’s play calling, deeming it too conservative and too predictable. That’s why his potential departure from Denver drew some celebration.

On the other hand, Tebow and the Broncos offense could benefit from consistency.

Tell me what you think of McCoy staying with the Broncos.

He needs to be more aggressive in his playing calling, teams already know what plays we are going to call for next season. Run run, pass 3rd and Long

McCoy staying is probably a good thing. Sure would like to see him really mix it up next season. Work on the pass, keep the option as part of ground game. Go Broncos.

I appreciate the good that he’s done, as well as his innovative skills. Being able to create successful game plans with a team that is not in sync, only after five games is impressive. But I feel like he just got stuck in a comfort zone and stopped evolving, hence the same repetitive play calling that got us in fourth and out situations as well as unnecessary losses. I hope during the offseason he gets to know and understand his offense better, so as to utilize the personnel in a more effective way. I know he has more then just the run/option/slants in his playbook.

Go Broncos! (excited about the draft hmmmmyeahhhh!)
