With Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy going through his second interview with the Miami Dolphins today, the Broncos are planning ahead. Should McCoy depart Denver, the Broncos have a very important vacancy to fill, especially with Tim Tebow going through his most important offseason to date.
Brandon Spano of Mile High Sports has this for us:
The Broncos have requested to speak with Colorado Buffaloes assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach Rip Scherer. Multiple sources have told me that if McCoy does in fact leave the Broncos, Scherer is a 100 percent lock to join the Broncos staff. In fact, the Buffs have actively been seeking out replacements for what seems to be a vacant quarterback coaching position in 2012. The talk inside the Buffaloes facility is that Scherer will take over as the offensive coordinator of the Broncos in 2012 if McCoy is no longer on the staff.
But sources close to the Broncos seem to have a different outlook. The ones that I have talked to believe that if and when Scherer joins the staff, it is more likely that he will come on as the quarterbacks coach and that the man currently in that position, Adam Gase, would move to offensive coordinator, something that many Broncos fans might not want to hear.
