Josh McDaniels Back To New England Just In Time For Playoff Run?

With Steve Spagnuolo being fired from the St. Louis Rams on “Black Monday,” the Rams will likely have a giant coaching staff overhaul. That means that former Broncos coach Josh McDaniels is exploring his options.

Even though the Rams are done this season that doesn’t necessarily mean that McDaniels is too. According to NFL.com, McDaniels’ former team the New England Patriots asked the Rams for permission to interview McDaniels for the pending offensive coordinator position. (Pats’ offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien is reportedly going to accept a deal to become Penn State’s new head coach). The Rams gave the Patriots the green light.

League rules would actually allow McDaniels to join the Patriots staff immediately for the team’s playoff run, although it seems like an odd time to bring him aboard. – Pro Football Talk

The Chiefs may also take a gander at McDaniels for either offensive coordinator or head coach since he was the one who developed Matt Cassel and he’s worked with Kyle Orton.
