John Fox Not Down On Team For Backing Into Playoffs

Despite losing their last three regular season games, the Denver Broncos don’t exactly have the cards stacked against them going into the playoffs.

“We went to a Super Bowl one year and lost three out of the last four,” John Fox recalled of his 2004 Carolina Panthers team.

The New Orleans Saints lost the last three games of their regular season the year that they won the Super Bowl.

Of the 12 playoff teams, four (Cincinnati, Houston, Detroit, and Denver) go in having lost at least their last game. The Broncos and the Texans enter post season play with the worst losing skid at three games.

“If somebody would have told me back in late July, early August that we would win the AFC West division championship and be in the playoffs, I’d a taken it. I think everyone in there (in the locker room) would have too.”

Brian Dawkins gave the team a pep talk Monday to get the team’s frame of mind back in the right place. Coach Fox wasn’t sure what he said, but he wasn’t surprised that Dawkins decided to speak.

As many players have mentioned, it’s a brand new season with all playoff teams starting at 0-0.

“It’s just a great opportunity,” Fox said. “We’re one of 12 teams. There’s 20 teams don’t have this opportunity. It doesn’t really matter how you won the race, you did. What we make of it, time will tell.”

The first checkpoint comes Sunday. Time will begin to tell that day.
