When you wake up on Sunday, Christmas morning, you could be waking up to a great present – A Denver Broncos playoff berth, their first since 2005.
That can happen if the Broncos beat the Buffalo Bills on Saturday and the stars align just right, and the Raiders lose to the Lions. That’s not the only way that the Broncos can make the playoffs, but it’s the most immediate.
The AFC West is a dog fight to the top.
“I competed in the NFC East for a lot of years, and it was pretty much a battle every year,” John Fox said. “That’s kind of how I see the AFC West.”
Theoretically all teams in the division are still in contention to take first place in the AFC West. The Chargers and the Raiders are 7-7 while the Chiefs are 6-8. Some big wins and a little help could propel any one of these teams to the top of the board, but it’s the Broncos that hold their own fate in their hands.
“Our guys understand that we control our own destiny,” Fox said. “We’ll see how we do.”
The Broncos have gotten to this point by taking it one practice at a time and one game at a time.
“We just want to win the games that we can,” Von Miller said. “We just want to keep taking it one day at a time. That’s been our formula for success.”
In that case, keep rolling. The playoffs await at some point.
