Elway Says As Of Now Broncos Don’t Have Their QB

Just when will Tim Tebow be taken seriously? Does a 4-1 record as a starter this season not cut it?

Apparently so for the team’s vice president of football operations John Elway. According to the Lindsay Jones of the Denver Post, Gary Miller of 102.3 FM in Denver asked Elway the following question:

“Any closer to feeling if you have your quarterback on this team?”

Elway flat out answered “no.”

He then went on to say,

“Tim Tebow did exactly what he thought he could on Thursday night. When we get in tough situations, he’s a guy that’s going to be able to make those plays…I think obviously he’s making progress week in and week out. When you look at our third down numbers, those have to improve. I mean, that’s the bottom line,” Elway said. “We can’t go 3-for-13 and win a world championship. Those are the type of things we have to keep improving.” (Denver Post)

Is Elway right in questioning Tebow’s status on this team? What more does the second year QB have to do to prove that he’s the right man for the job?

The bottom line for Tebow’s potential as an NFL quarterback: Time. I’ll leave it at that.

Elway will always be the greatest Bronco and I love him but he isn’t showing a lot of class as a manager. Tebow has brought back Mile High magic and I have no doubt will lead us to a championship at some point. He inspires the whole team to play up to their potentials. John’s lack of support is distressing to this 30 year Bronco fan.

@broncosbuzztap Said he doesn’t know if they do. Out of context. Question was are they closer to saying Tim is and he said no.

  • ChargerGrlCindi

@AFCWestShow @fansided I was watching him watching Tebow. He does not like him. Jealous?

  • tlmoon2112

I think its pretty clear that the only thing Tim can do is what he’s been doing. Try to get better everyday. 1 day at a time, 1 game at a time and not worry about what he can’t control. He can’t control what John Elway thinks about him. What he CAN control is how well he prepares himself and his teammates to play the next play/game. Even IF Tim takes them to the playoffs, anything short of a Super Bowl win is going to be an “I told you he couldnt do it” scenario from everyone that’s already saying it. Its a sad state of affairs quite frankly, especially when you consider that the guy is playing with an average team (theyre getting better though) and has more wins then Curtis Painter who is playing with a Super Bowl team and has 1 more year of experience.

  • Schnowzerz

Well, if Elway and Co. doesn’t want him, I know there is a franchise that does…he will go somewhere where he will be appreciated….screw Denver and the front office.

  • AFCWestShow

@ChargerGrlCindi @fansided Don’t know Jealous, more of a control issue. Wants his people.

I think being professional and Eway should never be said in the same sentence.

So, Johnny Boy is just saying what a lot of us have thought from the beginning….he can’t stand the fact that Tebow could become the all-time most beloved Bronco QB. Tebow has a better starting record than Elway had. I admit that Tebow has a lot to work on, but he’s proven that he can lead this team to wins…and that he inspires EVERYONE on the team to play better. Oh well….let’s see how he can not play Tebow if Tebow keeps winning games. The bad thing is, the first time we lose, Elway may pull him and say…See, I told you so. I’ll have no problem buying another Tebow jersey for whichever team Tebow goes to in the future.

There’s no bigger Elway fan than me. I’ve been a huge fan of him and the Broncos for years. I made the trip to KC two sundays ago to watch the Broncs beat the Chiefs. Elway is pissing me off with talk like this. Of course they have their guy. Tim Tebow is the starting QB right now. He’s our guy. Sure that can change, just like anything else. Come on John, step up and affirm Tim as “The Guy” Clearly he’s the guy that’s been coming through in the clutch on the offensive side of the ball as of late and leading his team to wins. Mr. Elway, I have loved you for many years. I have appreciated all that you mean the Bronco Nation. Your demeanor as an executive regarding Tebow, is really frustrating to me. I’m starting to get disallusioned as to who you really are. Is your ego doing the talking?

Maybe John didn’t like being shown these numbers on Primetime TV: (First 8 starts)

    Elway Tebow

    Win-Loss 3-5 5-3

    Comp. Pct. 47.6 46.9

    Pass YPG 130.1 160.1

    TD-INT 3-10 10-4

    QB rating 48.8 76.9

    Rush Yds-TD 92-1 550-5

These numbers don’t mean that Tebow is as good as Elway was, not at all. But they do mean that Timmy has HUGE potential to be great. He has been leading this team. The team has been winning. He is the team’s QB. Swallow it and say so Mr. Elway.

as a player i like elway as a VP can’t stand him, nice way to support your QB and your team.

    no

  • Michael Musquez

No! We have him.. #15. just needs time but for now I’ll take the W’s any way TT brings them!

  • D.j. Martinez

    NO!!

  • Timm Dallas

Think john is just saying need more out of QB,
    Sick of 3 and outs.
Love tebow in the clutch he’s getting it done,
Needs to work on the pass , he passed in florida don’t get why he’s forcing his passes or duffing now? Think he will find it again..
    Like john said time…

I completely agree with Elway. Tebow is a heck of an athlete but he is by no means an NFL QB. We have barely gotten by some pretty bad teams. A 4-1 record against the teams he has beaten doesn’t really say much. I’d say Elway is about as qualified as anyone on the planet when it comes to evaluating a QB and he is spot on with his assessment of Tebow.

  • Sherry Hodges-Muzik

We finally are winning games again and the team and fans are energized and he’s got to throw cold water on it! “3rd down conversions”? Gimme a break!

  • Jeff Jacques

First… of all why are people overreacting every time Elway opens his mouth?

Second… this isn’t an unreasonable thing to say at all, it’s a factually statement that even I agree with.

Third… Tebow isn’t made out of China he knows what the situation is because that’s the way this game works at every level of the NFL. Play well and win stay on, suck balls and lose outta here.

Fourth… Tebow has a lot of confidence and I believe no matter what anyone says about him nothing is going stop him playing as hard as he can win or lose.

    Fifth… Refer to one.

much respect to all Tebow fans, but as a football fan he stinks and thats being nice. He is not a very good QB at this point look at his ratings never seen in the NFL but he is a winner to this point, but look at the teams played they suck as well and the Denver D is back and winning the games the way i see it. When Tebow starts loosing games all the supporters will bail off the ship he has you on. Just being real from a fan outside looking in.

  • Josh Long

Elway didn’t say anything wrong….people need to quit taking words out of its context. He says this hasn’t cleared up who our future QB is…which is true. It might be Tebow…but the Broncos aren’t running the option for the next 10 years. He needs to learn how to throw.
