The Broncos didn’t lace ‘em up today, but a lot certainly happened Sunday that is pertinent to the team.
While the Bears beat the Chargers this evening, putting San Diego a full game behind the Broncos in the standings, Jay Cutler was injured in the game. Cutler is expected to miss 6-8 weeks after breaking his thumb which will require surgery.
The Broncos host the Bears December 11 for what was to be Cutler’s first regular season appearance in Denver since Josh McDaniels traded him two years ago. Cutler’s backup in Chicago is Caleb Hanie who is in his 3rd season out of Colorado State.
While no one wishes for injuries to occur, things seem to be playing right into the Broncos hands for finishing the regular season on a strong note. Before they take on the Bears at home, they have to very winnable games in Minnesota and San Diego. Then it’s games against New England and Buffalo before they close out the season at home against the Chiefs.
The playoffs look like a real possibility.
