Champ Bailey has covered two big receivers in Brandon Marshall and Calvin Johnson this season. However, perhaps no receiver is as crucial to stop as Dwayne Bowe is this weekend in Kansas City.
Bowe is averaging 80.8 yards per game and he has 4 TDs on the year.
There’s an AFC West teeter-totter with Bailey on one end and Bowe on the other. Last year was an epic battle between the receiver and the future Hall of Fame cornerback.
In the Broncos win over the Chiefs, Bowe torched the Broncos secondary for 13 catches for 186 yards and 2 TDs. In their loss in Kansas City, Bailey held Bowe to zero catches.
“Any time you challenge Champ, he usually rises to the challenge,” Broncos’ defensive coordinator Dennis Allen said. “He’s going to win his fair share of battles.”
Bailey will certainly be challenged this week, but like always, he’s in the right mind frame.
“I go out there with the mindset that I’m going to dominate the game, and he (Bowe) knows that,” Bailey said. “I try to give him headaches as much as possible.”
Here’s hoping Bowe doesn’t find any Tylenol on the sidelines.
