Brian Dawkins looks a few years younger, not a year older. In his first two games with the Broncos this season, Dawkins has 13 tackles and 1 pass deflection. He says that he feels like he has fresh legs because of his new coach’s regimen.
“I think that is a huge part of it,” Dawkins said (talking about the new league rules that limit over-training prior to the season beginning). “The other part of it is Coach Fox, he runs his camps like that anyway. The only thing we took out is you can’t have two-a-days in pads in the same day, but as far as one practice is concerned, this is the way he does it. He allows you to get your legs back, he allows you to grind when you’re supposed to grind. But when it’s time to recover and get your legs right for the game, he allows that to happen.” – Brian Dawkins (Associated Press)
Dawkins was plagued by injuries last year, yet the almost 38-year-old safety is at the top of his game now. Fox takes a more quality over quantity approach to practice which is different than Josh McDaniels’s philosophy.
