Broncos in Celebrity Golf Tournament

The American Century Celebrity Golf Tournament kicks off this week in Lake Tahoe, Nevada and a couple of big names will be representing the Denver Broncos, as well as, the NFL. Hall of Fame Bronco quarterback, and current Vice President of Football Operations for the Broncos, John Elway, makes his twenty-second straight appearance at the golf tournament. Elway is one of five individuals who have appeared each year in the tournament’s 22 years of existence. During that time, Elway has been in the top ten a total of ten times and tied for 2nd two of those years; the most recent runner-up finish occurring in the 2010 tournament.

While Elway has accumulated almost a quarter century of this tournament on his golfing resume, current Bronco quarterback, Tim Tebow, is making his first appearance at the high-altitude golf tournament. With a proven history of winning on the college grid iron and still attempting to establish himself as a legitimate starting quarterback in the NFL, it is unknown what kind of golf game Tim Tebow will bring this week. Given the fact Tebow is a natural competitor, I am confident Tebow will look to play well, rather than just make an appearance.

In addition to the Broncos being represented, many other teams in the NFL are also represented by current and former players and coaches. Former Bronco coach and current Washington Redskin head coach, Mike Shanahan, is also participating in the golf tournament. Among others are Jared Allen, Marcus Allen, Matt Cassel, Todd Haley, Jim McMahon, Jerry Rice, Aaron Rodgers, Tony Romo, Matt Ryan, and Wes Welker.

The tournament will be televised on Versus Friday, July 15 (1-4 p.m. PT) and on NBC Saturday, July 16 and Sunday, July 17 (noon – 3 p.m. PT)
