John Elway And “The Drive”

In honor of John Elway’s birthday today, I decided to watch a film on “The Drive.” The Drive refers to an Elway led drive in the 1986 AFC Championship Game against the Cleveland Browns. He took the Broncos 98 yards in just over five minutes to tie the game with 37 seconds left in regulation play. The Broncos ended up winning that game 23-20 in overtime to advance to the Super Bowl.

There have been other incredible drives in NFL history whether it was Joe Montana or Peyton Manning leading their respective teams down the field to put the game away. There’s also the unforgettable drive from the 2007 Super Bowl when the New York Giants (down 14-10) went 83 yards in 2:39 minutes to take a three point lead and squash the Patriots’ perfect season.

No drive, however, is more significant to Broncos fans than “The Drive.”
