Miami Fans Want Kyle Orton

Tebow Time. Is it here or do we have to wait for him to wade through more reps under center?

The fans in Denver have spoken, and for the most part, the majority (see poll on side of page) of them think Tebow time should be now.

What if I told you to forget about Tebow time for a minute and consider an Orton occasion? There’s a fanbase in this country that would love to have Kyle Orton as their starting quarterback. In just 13 games, he threw for 3,653 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions. Who wouldn’t like a QB like that under center? However, with those numbers, the wins in Denver didn’t pile up. That’s why all Mile High attention has turned to a 23-year-old QB out of Florida.

In turn, all Florida attention has turned to a different Denver quarterback. The Sun Sentinel put up a poll on their website asking which QB the Dolphins should pursue once the lockout is over. With over 7,000 votes, 35% of respondents want Orton in South Beach.

Is it that Orton would mesh well with the like of LeBron James and Dwayne Wade. Hell no. The veteran QB would once again pair up with Brandon Marshall to pack a deadly one-two punch that the Dolphins need. When the duo wore orange and blue together in ’09, Orton threw for 3,802 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. Marshall had 1,120 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns in that same year.

Would the Broncos be willing to give up Orton’s experience for a couple of draft picks (3rd and 5th round picks) in 2012? With the draft over, that would lock in Tebow as the team’s starting QB. What would happen then? Would Tebow get too comfortable with his new role? Would he work harder in the offseason knowing that the sole spotlight will be on him come September? Will the team thrive under the outreached arm of a young QB? Those are some of the questions John Elway, Brian Xanders, and John Fox are considering. All of those questions address what is best for the Broncos in the long term.

Until the lockout comes to an end, this is all just talk, but that’s exactly what the Broncos need to do – talk about their quarterback situation. There’s no time like the present to weigh the options.
