AUTHOR: | IN: Broncos, Draft | COMMENTS: 11 Comments

What a draft for the Denver Broncos. In John Elway and John Fox’s first draft with the orange and blue, it’s clear that operation Orange Crush is underway. Here’s a quick breakdown of who the Broncos selected before you grade this draft. The Broncos had a total of nine picks, and they loaded up defense with six players coming from that side of the ball. They picked up four linebackers, two safeties, two tight ends, and one tackle.

AUTHOR: | IN: Broncos, Draft | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Broncos went with another tight end for their first pick in the 7th round of the draft. The Broncos selected 6-foot-3, 249 lb. Virgil Green from Nevada. Green is the second tight end that the Broncos have chosen in this draft. The team picked Julius Thomas in the 4th round after trading their 5th and 6th round picks. Green improved consistently during the course of his college career. He had 35 receptions for 515  yards and 5 touchdowns during his senior season. Not only is Green a great receiving tight end, but he can block as well. Some projected him to go [...]

Broncos Go Inside Linebacker With 189th Pick

AUTHOR: | IN: Broncos, Draft | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Broncos go defense again. In the 6th round, the team went with inside linebacker Mike Mohamed from California with the 189th overall pick. Mohamed (6’3”, 239 lbs.) was a three-year starter for the Golden Bears, and led the team in tackles his junior year. In that year, he had 105 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble, and 3 interceptions. During his senior year, Mohamed had 91 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble, and 1 interception. Mohamed seems like a well rounded linebacker and should give the Broncos some depth at the position. Broncos Pick Up Julius Thomas In 4th Round

AUTHOR: | IN: Broncos, Draft | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Denver Broncos made a big move in the 4th round of the draft to acquire tight end Julius Thomas. The team selected Thomas 129th overall and gave up their 5th (141) and 6th (186) round picks, and also got a 7th round pick (204) from the Green Bay Packers. Julius Thomas is a big tight end (6’5”, 246 lbs.) that comes out of Portland State, but he’s limited in his football experience. Thomas played basketball before his senior year at Portland State. In 2010, he caught 29 passes for 453 yards and 2 touchdowns. The need for a tight end was evident [...]

Broncos Select Quinton Carter With 108th Pick

AUTHOR: | IN: Broncos, Draft | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Broncos just picked up another safety in this year’s draft. The team selected Quinton Carter out of Oklahoma with the 108th pick in the NFL Draft. Carter is a 6-foot-1, 200 lbs. former Sooner that spent four years in Norman. His last two years in college were his most productive with 79 total tackles and 4 interceptions in 2009, and 96 total tackles and 4 interceptions in 2010.  The Broncos already picked up a safety in Rahim Moore (UCLA) with the 45th overall pick. The brain trust of the Broncos knows where this team’s weakness is. Four of five players selected are coming from the [...]

Broncos Pick Nate Irving In Third Round

AUTHOR: | IN: Broncos, Draft | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

The Denver Broncos just picked up some more help on defense when they selected inside linebacker Nate Irving with the 67th pick overall in the NFL draft. Irving comes out of NC State where he was the team captain and the ultimate inspiration after surviving a deadly car crash in 2009. He was forced to miss that season, but he still tallied 211 total tackles during his career. In 2010, he had 7 sacks and 3 forced fumbles. The 6-foot-1, 230 lb. Irving is small for his position, but he’s a physical player that has a tremendous amount of speed and quickness. Irving never [...]

NFL Lockout Back On

AUTHOR: | IN: Broncos, NFL | COMMENTS: None Yet

The NFL lockout is back on. This is like a bad relationship that sees a couple agree to move forward as a  one day only to break up the next day. U.S. District Judge Susan Nelson’s ruling to lift the lockout was put on hold just as the 2nd round of the NFL draft got underway. What a short work week for players as today was the first (and last) day they could workout at team facilities. As reported by Lindsay Jones of the Denver Post, Spencer Larsen got the dust off the equipment in the weight room as he was [...]

Broncos Pick Rahim Moore and Orlando Franklin With 45th and 46th Picks

AUTHOR: | IN: Broncos, Draft | COMMENTS: None Yet

In trades with the San Francisco 49ers and the Miami Dolphins, the Denver Broncos had the 45th and 46th overall picks, respectfully, in the NFL Draft. That was plenty of time for Shannon Sharpe to show his pearly whites and announce the names of S Rahim Moore from UCLA and  T Orlando Franklin from the University of Miami. This is similar to the birth of twins for the Broncos who picked up two great players within the span of ten minutes.
