It’s a Wonderful Life, Mr. Bailey!

In the Christmas classic, “It’s a Wonderful Life”, Jimmy Stewart plays the role of the most beloved man in Bedford Falls, George Bailey. In the tear-jerking last scene, dozens of George’s family and friends rally around the down-trodden owner of the Bailey Savings and Loan. After that, he had a substantial amount of money misplaced/stolen from his institution by the evil Billionaire, Mr. Potter. The friends come pouring into his home after raising a boat-load of money to help pull him out of is quandary.

This past Sunday, Invesco Field at Mile High was turned into the Bailey residence in Bedford Falls. About 40 predominantly-orange-bleeding Broncoholics held a grass-roots rally in support of the Denver Broncos re-signing the 10-time Pro-Bowl Cornerback, Champ Bailey. However, unlike the Jimmy Stewart character, money is not what was being heaped upon the most beloved man in Broncos Nation. Instead they showed Champ the love and respect he has earned, hoping he would stay in Colorado. In addition to his on the field talent, his work within the greater Denver community is endearing. Bailey has transformed into a Colorado guy in a relatively short time period.

For their efforts, the fans received some text love directly from Bailey on Monday. He texted, “Maybe this will help…maybe we can get this done.” Well the Broncos front office must have heard their constituents (unlike most politicians). So the fans showed Bailey the love and Mr. Bowlen showed him the money.

I think that not only the Broncos organization, but all of Broncos Nation can breathe a sigh of relief. Not only do you lock up one of the greatest shut-down corners of all time, but he will now retire a Bronco and will become synonymous with the orange and blue. In addition, that is one more thing crossed off John Elway’s “To-Do” list. Now, he and the rest of the Broncos brain trust can turn their attention to the draft and the post labor dispute free agency class. I think I am going to dust off my #24, Gulden’s spicy brown mustard, circa 1960 jersey and sport it proudly.

It truly is a wonderful life Mr. (Champ) Bailey.
