Broncos-Chargers 3rd Quarter

Ryan Mathews got into the endzone for his second score of the game on a 12-yard TD run less than four minutes into the second half. That put the Broncos up 23-7.

After yet another San Diego shutdown, the Broncos were forced to punt, and Antoine Cason returned it 62 yards to put the Bolts on the Broncos’ 19-yard line. That was good enough to give Nate Kaeding his closet field goal of the game, a 37-yard attempt.

Just one week ago in this same stadium, Tim Tebow led the Broncos to a one point win when they were down 23-10 to start the fourth quarter. Can he bring them back again, this time from 12 points down?

Today’s game has been rough for Tebow, facing a much different secondary than he saw last week. The Texans were 32nd in pass defense while the Chargers are 1st in pass defense, and it certainly shows.

Through three quarters, Tebow has gone 8-for-18 For 99 yards, 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. It looks like the best thing for Tebow’s arm is his legs. He broke free for a 30-yard carry followed by an 11-yard run, and then an 8-yard run. That opened things up for a nice little shovel pass to Correll Buckhalter for a 15-yard gain. As the cameras in the south endzone flashed away, Tebow threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to rookie Eric Decker.

Score at the end of the 3rd quarter: Broncos 14 Chargers 26
