Elvis Dumervil Gets His Contract

Happy Friday. Happy pay day. And that it is for outside linebacker, Elvis Dumervil

Dr. Doom finally received and agreed to a big long term contract worth $61.5 million over 6 years ($43.1 million guaranteed). That’s Champ Bailey-like money for a guy who makes just as big an impact as Bailey on defense.

Dumervil is well deserving of this deal. He led the league in sacks last season with 17. That’s after Josh McDaniels asked him to make the switch from inside to outside linebacker. Dumervil did so without complaining and showed that he’s capable of being a great defensive leader.

He also signed his tender earlier this summer without complaining about the Broncos pace for working out a long term deal. He showed for OTA’s and has been happily participating. It’s unusual for a star player to do that in this league.

Entering Dumervil’s 5th season in the league, he has 130 total tackles, 42.5 sacks for 243 yards lost, 1 INT, and 10 forced fumbles in 61 games. There’s no doubt that teams will be doubling up on Doom this season since he’s a high profile player now.

Congrats to Dumervil and the Broncos. It was money well spent and I’m confident the product will grow each year.
