Brandon Marshall Done As A Bronco?

Welcoming in 2010, we get the news that Brandon Marshall (hamstring) and Tony Scheffler (conduct) will not suit up against the Chiefs on Sunday. That’s  right – we may have seen them for the last time in a Broncos uniform because they are restricted free agents. These were two guys that emerged under Jay Cutler’s time, but matured under Kyle Orton’s steady arm. Records were set, more games were won, and a bridge was built connecting Josh McDaniels and Marshall after some preseason drama.

The thought of losing our play maker is scary. All we can hope for is that the Broncos get into the playoffs and win some games during post season play. That could convince Marshall that Denver is a place he needs to stick around. Under Josh McDaniels, I truly believe that a Super Bowl championship is within arms reach. It’s still a couple of years away because McD is in the building process. However, if Marshall doesn’t get the contract he wants and shops around, I would push a Super Bowl ring further out.

Just like when you have a franchise QB, having a franchise WR is invaluable. Marshall has qualities that you can’t teach. His size (6’4”, 230 lbs) and hands make him one of the top 3 receivers in the league. All of us have seen his one armed catches and the way he repels defenders. I think this organization knows what they have in him, and they’ll do everything in their power to keep him around. Ironically, #15 had his last touchdown catch in week 15 against the Raiders. Let’s hope that won’t be the final step he takes into the endzone at Invesco as a Bronco.
