The ’09 NFL season continues to baffle me. Week in and week out, crazy things happen. Week 13 was no different. Here are some things that surprised me: Who’s dat? – The undefeated Saints needed to pull out a miracle come from behind OT win against the Redskins. I don’t know if the sneaux, er, snow and cold temps threw the Saints off at first, but this was a voodoo win for sure! These are the kind of games I enjoy every once in a while. A pure 44-13 Mile High stomp on the Chiefs in enemy territory in front of a half filled Arrowhead Stadium makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Kyle Orton 1 Matt Cassel 0. That miserable 1-15 losing record in the month of December in Kansas City doesn’t mean much now. One of the best Broncos fans in the business, Tim McKernan a.k.a. the Barrel Man, passed away yesterday from lung disease. This week, our image of the week is dedicated to him. May we all be as passionate about our team as he was.

The losing streak has been snapped, the Broncos look like a football team again, then they play the 3-8 Chiefs this weekend. If that isn’t a “glass half full” kind of outlook, then I don’t know what is. Each game in the NFL, however, can go either way. The Broncos could spill that glass if they don’t show up ready to play. If they come out with the same intensity that they had against the Giants, they could bury the Chiefs in the first half. I haven’t done one of these in a while, so let me brush off the rust, and give you 10 reasons why being a Broncos fan is better than being a Chiefs fan. 1. It’s been so long since the Chiefs have won a Super Bowl that they decided to bring in Mike Vrabel just to admire his rings. 2. Larry Johnson was released from the Chiefs because he used the C-word. “Chiefs.” 3. The main tornado shelter in Kansas City is at Arrowhead. After all, they never get a touchdown there. 4. The Chiefs could be the team standing between the Broncos and a playoff spot. I’m not joking with that statement. Yes, the 3-8 team from Kansas City could hold the Broncos back. Here it is, December 2nd, and the two AFC West teams meet for the first time this season on Sunday. These two teams aren’t much different from eachother. Both are rebuilding, both hired new head coaches, and both put their faith in the hands of young, one-time backup QBs. The difference is the Broncos have veteran leadership on defense.
