The Broncos Need A Running Back
We can talk about improving the defense all we want. It’s the Broncos top priority in the draft and in the free agent market. However, it’s hard to ignore the fact that the Broncos running game is a thing of the past. After Clinton Portis left, the hype surrounding the Broncos once famed/feared run attack disappeared. No one threatened opposing defenses to go for 50 yards and a score. Well, that could change if the team Ponies up the money for Giants back, Derrick Ward. With Brandon Jacobs handling the #1 position for the Giants, Ward wants out to prove that he can handle [...]
Pop The Cork In Broncos Country
The latest Broncos casualty is Dre Bly. He was released yesterday, and I’m happy to see him go. He was being paid too much for doing too little. He was past his prime when the Broncos picked him up. With Champ on the other side of the field, everyone knew to throw in Bly’s direction, and he didn’t have the legs to keep up with some very good receivers. Having a poor pass rush didn’t help things either. Ebenezer Ekuban, Marlon McCree, and Nate Webster could all be a thing of the past as well. There’s no question that the defense needed a major [...]
Broncos Raise Unemployment Rate
Sorry for the lack of material lately, but I was in my hometown doing some serious snowboarding. I had to leave Colorado and go to Utah to find real powder. Go figure! Anyway, I have returned only to find missing spots on the Broncos roster. Lots of missing spots. Like a dog hacking up a hairball, the Broncos hacked up the useless players that they swallowed last season. Players like DeWayne Robertson and Niko Koutouvides were let go after the team thought they would make an impact last year. Turns out that when the local news reported their release, they could only [...]
Broncos Make Some Cuts
Yesterday, the Broncos released five offensive players. They were P.J. Pope, Chad Mustard, Clifford Russell, Alex Haynes, and Anthony Alridge. I was actually a little bummed that they let Mustard go. I know we already have Tony Scheffler, Nate Jackson, and Daniel Graham at tight end, but it’s tough to see Mustard go. Although Mustard played in some games last season, he didn’t put up any numbers. He was cut right after training camp, re-signed in October, waived after a month, and re-signed again after Jackson suffered a season ending injury. Believe me, I would rather see Scheffler, Jackson, and Graham at the tight end position, but Mustard has worked [...]
Did Brett Favre Talk To A-Rod?
Brett Favre retired today. Again. Two retirement announcements in a less than a year. This one is of course less dramatic. I’m sure that’s because no one is sure how true this announcement is. Will he come back again once training camp starts or will he finally retire to that rocking chair that overlooks his farm? Tributes were given last year. Packers fans, while they still have respect for the guy, have moved on to Aaron Rodgers. New York has bigger, almost steroid like issues to deal with right now. Ahem, A-Rod. Wait! Maybe A-Rod looked to Favre to get some of the New York [...]
Broncos Big Boys Fitting The Bill
The Broncos are on the brink of something big. I feel it. You may tell me I’m feeling it because of the doldrums of the off season or maybe because the season is still nine months away. I feel it because we have players that have matured since becoming a Bronco. Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall are a world away from where they ended the 2007 season. They’ve made Pro Bowl appearances, provided guidance to the rookies, and got their life together off the field. While Jay Cutler promotes his foundation and Brandon Marshall plans his wedding this summer, the Broncos fan base wonders just where these guys will end their career. [...]
Jay Cutler’s Pro Bowl Trickery
Here are some highlights from this weekend’s Pro Bowl. Included in the clip is Jay Cutler’s between the legs handoff to LaRon McClain for the touchdown.
Broncos Notes From The Pro Bowl
- The joke was on Manning. As Peyton and others tossed Jay Cutler into the pool, they forgot about his diabetes monitor. – Pro Bowlers are very surprised by Brandon Marshall’s size and talent. – Marshall took to a flight simulator and got a non-football rush. – Cutler is seeking out the right people for advice in Hawaii. Let’s hope he brings it home to Denver. – Pro Bowl center Casey Wiegmann thought about retiring if the Broncos didn’t adjust his contract. Lucky for us, he’ll be around in the future. – Former Broncos RB Clinton Portis is enjoying himself prior to [...]
The Broncos Speak About Shanahan
When players are in Hawaii preparing and relaxing before the Pro Bowl, they let their guards down, and open up. The latest person to speak out about Mike Shanahan’s firing was none other than Peyton Manning. He told the Denver Post, “I would be hard-pressed to find a better offensive mind than Mike Shanahan.” I would agree with Manning, but it’s obvious that the league is turning more towards a new generation of coaches. Coaches that are approachable, open, and can relate to their players. It was said that Shanahan comes from a more traditional coaching background. A “my way or the [...]
