The Bird’s The Word In Arizona

Ironically, the same week that a new president is inaugurated into the White House, a new NFL team is inaugurated into the Super Bowl. At the beginning of the season, I would’ve never predicted the Cardinals and the Steelers to be playing in the title game. Admit it. You didn’t either. The Cowboys and Chargers, the Giants and Patriots. Now, that made sense!

I suppose I’m rooting for the Cardinals because I have some ties to the state. I went to graduate school in AZ and the Cardinals held their training camp at my University in the summer time. I went out to watch them practice a few times because I was craving any kind of NFL football in my life, and being two hours away from Phoenix, I was desperate to watch a professional sports team. AZ also borders Colorado at the Four Corners, so there’s another good reason to root for them. Plus, Roethlisberger and Co. have already won it. I say let the new guys take to the podium. It would be great to see Kurt Warner win it again considering the last time he took home a ring was 1999. That’s just a year after John Elway won his second ring. People have criticized Warner’s downward spiral after the 2000 Super Bowl. His numbers may have dropped tremendously, but he had it in his heart to continue playing hard.

As always the Super Bowl is full of storylines. To get some great coverage over the next two weeks, check out our sister sites that cover the Steelers and the Cardinals. Those guys will do a great job of covering the biggest game of the year.
