Meet The Broncos New Head Coach

Well, the guy (Steve Spagnuolo) that I wanted to coach the Broncos didn’t get the job. However, an excellent choice was made. Pat Bowlen went with 32 year old, Josh McDaniels. McDaniels was the Patriots offensive coordinator for the past 3 years. The Broncos will hold a press conference at 5 p.m. today to introduce McDaniels. To learn more about the new coach, click here.

Current Broncos offensive coordinator, Rick Dennison, may be going elsewhere. That’s fine with me. With McDaniels taking over, the Broncos need to focus their efforts on defense anyway. That’s why I wanted Spagnuolo to get the position in the first place.

Broncos fans around the area have expressed their disappointment or enthusiasm in the decision to hire McDaniels. This from the Denver Post:

“I liked Shanahan. McDaniels has done a good job in New England, but look at the weapons he has. (Jay) Cutler is no Tom Brady.”
— Eric Kuhns

“From a defensive standpoint, I’m a little surprised, but I think it’s a decent hire. McDaniels has a lot of experience. Look at what he’s done in the past.”
— Matt Kacanda

“I disagree with the hire. He’s a young coach and not proven. With all the veteran coaches out there, like Bill Cowher, Mike Holmgren, you want to bring in someone who’s a household name.”
— Chris Fisher

“I think it’s an OK hire, but what we lost is crazy. That was the biggest shock in a while — losing Shanahan.”
— Marcus Cox

“Interesting choice — probably the least expensive of the choices, but I like the fact that they might hire (Dom) Capers too. Good luck, McDaniels — Go Broncos!”
— footballfan4life

“I liked (Leslie) Frazier but hope people will get behind this move. McDaniels is considered one of the great young minds in football, and his hiring is a major ‘get’ for Denver. Look, hiring a defensive-minded head coach is no guarantee that it would turn a defense around. More important is hiring a good GM and having a good offseason with the draft and free agency.”
— dashiell

“I thought I told you (Pat!) not to hire a kid to run a billion-dollar company. The Vikings’ D-coordinator (Frazier) would’ve been fine. So would the D-coordinator of the Titans, Ravens, or Giants. Rick Dennison would have been an outstanding choice. . . . This is ridiculous. Years of mediocrity and a string of head coaches, here we come.”
— R8R_H8R

“Bowlen hired (Dan) Reeves as an offensive guy and went to three Super Bowls, then hired Shanny as an offensive coach and won two Super Bowls. He must feel that third time’s a charm. Besides we don’t need a top-10 defense. We just need to be in the teens.”
— ZonaBroncoFan

“No offense to McDaniels but BOO! Bowlen, nice ‘sexy’ hire but not a quality one. You turned a no-brainer into a mistake. So of all the defensive minds pining for the job and we hire an unproven offensive coordinator?”
— Loyal Fan

I have been a Broncos Fan for 35 years now, I have seen a lot of mannerisms and nervous twitches, but young Josh’s spitting every time the camera is on his cute litte face is not only disgusting, but lets others see how insecure and nervous(rightly so) he really is. Teamwork reflects leadership. Try to grow up a little, Son, and you could be a very good coach for our team.

I agree, he does seem very nervous. In training camp, he was always twirling his whistle around. However, the players seem to respect him, which is the most important part!
