Some big news in Broncos country: Future Hall of Famer, Rod Smith, agreed to go on the reserve/retired list today. He did it to provide the Broncos with some salary cap relief. After having two hip surgeries in the last year, the 37 year old receiver is not officially retiring, but this move gets him one step closer to putting the torch out on his incredible NFL career.
Smith’s agent, Tom Mills, told the Associated Press that Smith is “a long way from doing anything taxing on the hip.” Should Smith recover from the surgery, he would need to apply for reinstatement to the league office in order to collect the $1.5 million that he is guaranteed to make next season. What do you think? Should Smith fall right into retirement or should he continue to work his ass off in order to play another season. How would his return benefit the Broncos?
