Broncos Happy to Say Goodbye to 2007

As bad as this year was for the Broncos starting with the Jan. 1, 2007 shooting of cornerback, Darrent Williams, and then having a 7-9 season, the Broncos did their best to end the year on a high note. After losing a 16 point lead in the final ticks of regulation,  Jason Elam won the game for the Broncos for the fourth time this season with a fieldgoal in overtime.

John Lynch and Rod Smith do not know if they will be returning for another season (Yahoo Sports). Lynch has been pondering retirement for a few years now, and Smith may have to undergo career ending hip replacement surgery. At least they both went out with a win.

Here are some key players that stepped up today:

Jason Elam – best clutch kicker in Broncos history.

Brandon Marshall – finished with 10 catches for 114 yards. We have a lot to look forward to from this guy.

Elvis Dumervil – recoverd a Vikings fumble in overtime to give Elam the chance to win the game.

Jay Cutler – solid performance from him with 246 yards and 2 TDs.

For the people out there that say the Broncos messed up their position in the draft by winning this one, what are you thinking? As professional athletes, they are paid millions of dollars to compete at the highest level and winning should be their number one priority. Besides, this win carries over into next season because players will be highly motivated to work hard over the summer. With wins over teams like Tennessee and Pittsburgh, and an overtime loss to Green Bay, the Broncos know that they are capable of beating some good quality teams. It will only make them want to be better prepared for the 2008 season.
